Due to complete and total fear of the realization that the SLC Half Marathon is in just 2 more months, I've decided it's time to start running more than once/week. To accomplish this, I think I need some motivation. Fortunately, Mickele agreed with me both on the fear and the motivation issue, so we've decided to try to run together and want anyone and everyone to come join us if they'd like. Weather permitting (we're not hard core enough to run in 20 degree temps or blizzards), we're planning on getting together at the Bountiful High School track on Saturday's at 11am. If anyone wants to join us, please come! We're just going to jog around the track for awhile and then go home. Jackie, you've already mentioned you'll come so you're committed now. And Mindy V., Mickele also committed you so it looks like you have no choice! :) So if anybody else is local to the Bountiful area, or if not but you really like commuting, come join us next Saturday.
Otherwise, how is everyone else coming with their running progress? Mindy E, you and Martin seem to run a lot. How many times/week do you run and how far do you usually go? I still don't really have a plan but I think I should come up with one since 13.1 miles is just a long ways to go!

Apparently I am committed, so I guess I will see whomever on Saturday. Any luck on determining the legs we are doing? I need to get my butt in better gear! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes I will be there on saturday to cuz now I am committed hehehe. I am going to post about the legs by the end of this week for sure I just have to do some adjusting with a couple of ppl and then I will let you all know.
ReplyDeleteI run 5 days a week. Well, at least I am on the treadmill 5 days a week. One of those days I walk. I have a nice big chart by my treadmill that tells me what I will be running that day. :). I've been following the Hal Higdon training program for the half marathon. Sunday I had a rest day, today I ran 4.5 miles, tomorrow I run 3 miles, Wednesday I run 4.5 miles, Thursday I walk for 50 minutes (on an incline), Friday I have a rest day and Saturday Marty and I will run outside (hopefully 7ish miles). Then I start it all again next week. Every other week my short runs and long runs increase in distance. It's a good program and I really think that I will be ready for the 1/2 as long as I stick with the program (which I will damnit!).
ReplyDeleteMickele sent me the program, but you can find on the internet too. I also know that Salt Lake Running Co. has a few training programs on their website.
That is really close to what AJ and I are doing right now to train for the half. We are averaging 20-23 miles per week right now. All treadmill miles until it breaks freezing at least here in the frozen tundra
ReplyDeleteYes that is about what I am doing also so sounds like we are all going to be ready for this half and for the ragnar race. Alright everyone keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the Hal Higdon one, I'll have to look it up again! For your guys long runs, are you running them slower than you run for your other ones? I tried a 6 mile run this weekend and I did it (yay!) but I had to take it pretty slow. :)
ReplyDeleteRyan, you and Amanda are already up to 20 miles/week! Wow, I'm impressed! You guys are coming down for the SLC half, right?
Mickele, I just signed Jay and I up for a 5K at the South Davis Rec Center next Saturday (13th). Just wanted to let you know, in case you'd like to run it too. :)
I'm not a very fast runner, but I run all of my runs the same speed. My goal for the half is to finish it. :) after that I'll start working on speed.
ReplyDeleteAJ and I are for sure doing the SLC half. I won't be breaking any time records, but I should be able to finish without getting too busted up. So far my long run per week has only been 7 miles, but AJ has done 9 a couple times already. She will be ready and is getting faster every week. No doubt she will leave me in the dust.
